Team Lagos emerged as the champions of the 9th National Youth Games, ending Team Delta’s reign as defending champions.
The announcement was made during the closing ceremony on Saturday at Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.
Representing the chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, Chief Amaka Ashiofu revealed that Lagos athletes amassed a total of 110 medals: 52 gold, 32 silver, and 26 bronze.
Despite finishing second, Team Delta put up a strong performance with 114 medals overall, comprising 37 gold, 38 silver, and 39 bronze.
Team Edo, which had been in second place before the final day of competition, slipped to third with 79 medals, including 33 gold, 18 silver, and 28 bronze.
Across the competition, athletes from 33 states claimed medals, with the total haul reaching 802 medals: 246 gold, 236 silver, and 320 bronze.
