Bayelsa State clinched the gold medal in the women’s basketball competition at the ongoing National Sports Festival taking place in Ogun State.
The Bayelsa Ladies delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday, defeating the host team, Ogun, 59-37 in a thrilling finale.
They seized control of the game from the opening moments and left no doubt about their superiority.
Despite the energetic backing from the home crowd at the Alake Sports Complex in Ijeja, Team Ogun struggled to cope with their opponents trickery and effective play.
While the silver medal serves as a consolation for the host state, their strong showing throughout the tournament deserves commendation.
Both Bayelsa and Ogun have demonstrated remarkable form in ball games at the 22nd National Sports Festival, also known as the Gateway Games.
