Tanker carrying 45,000 litres of petrol overturns in Oyo

A fuel-laden tanker carrying 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit overturned at the Eleyele area of Ibadan, Oyo State, on Tuesday, causing a significant fuel spill and triggering emergency response efforts.

The incident occurred directly opposite the AIB Filling Station, causing panic among residents and road users in the area.

Confirming the incident in a statement issued on Wednesday, the Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, said the tanker, which bore the registration number LAGOS T21044 LA, veered off the road and crashed into a ditch, resulting in the uncontrolled discharge of its content.

“Immediately we received the report, our men were dispatched to the scene. A crew led by CFS Olayiwola responded swiftly,” Akinwande stated. “The trailer tanker had swerved off the road and plunged into a nearby ditch, spilling its 45,000-litre PMS cargo in the process.”
