Former Sokoto State Governor and ex-Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, has urged Nigerians to unite and use the ballot box to remove President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 general elections.
According to The Punch, Tambuwal accused the Federal Government of failing to address the country’s worsening insecurity and other pressing national challenges.
He made the remarks on Wednesday in Sokoto while welcoming the immediate past Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area, Isa Salihu Bashir Kalanjeni, into the African Democratic Congress following his resignation from the All Progressives Congress and his exit from office.
Describing Kalanjeni’s return to the ADC as a “homecoming,” Tambuwal praised the former council chairman for maintaining cordial relations with members of the party despite his previous defection to the APC.
“Isa Kalenjeni was one of us before he decided to join the other group. This has always been his home, but what happened has happened and he left,” Tambuwal said.
Tambuwal also commended Kalanjeni for avoiding political insults and personal attacks during his time in the APC.
“Nobody can say they ever heard him engaging in name-calling or disrespecting any of us. That is not our tradition. We don’t engage in politics of mudslinging and insults.”
The former governor described Kalanjeni’s decision to resign from both the APC and his position as local government chairman as an act of courage.
“What you have done is heroic. It is not everyone that can do what you did,” he said.
Tambuwal further alleged that many politicians were unwilling to join the ADC because of the consequences of leaving the ruling party.
“Most politicians who leave the ruling APC go round other political parties instead of joining the ADC. It is only those pursuing the interest of the nation, rather than personal interest, that will join the ADC,” he said.
He also claimed that attempts to undermine the ADC had not succeeded, insisting that the party’s growing popularity had become a source of concern for the ruling party.
“President Bola Tinubu, by God’s grace, the outgoing President, has been having sleepless nights over the ADC. Everywhere he turns, he sees Atiku Abubakar. They have continued scheming to ensure the ADC does not see the light of day, but God has frustrated those efforts,” he stressed.
Tambuwal urged members of the ADC to remain disciplined and avoid engaging in abusive political campaigns.
“No insults, no name-calling, no disrespect. We should remain peaceful, focused and determined. We should fear nobody except God and continue to work in the best interest of our people.”
Speaking on the security situation, Tambuwal argued that recent attacks in parts of Sokoto State reflected what he described as the Federal Government’s inability to effectively tackle insecurity.
“Everyone knows what is happening in Sokoto. Even nearby in Bodinga, terrorists are attacking communities and killing innocent people,” he maintained.
He called on Nigerians to pursue change through lawful and democratic means during the 2027 elections.
“I am calling on the people of Sokoto and Nigerians as a whole to come together and do everything democratically possible to ensure that we change this government that does not mean well for Nigerians,” he insisted.
Kalanjeni resigned as Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area and left the APC on Tuesday after months of speculation surrounding his political future.
He was officially received into the ADC by Tambuwal alongside the party’s Sokoto State governorship candidate, Manir Muhammad Dan’Iya, the state chairman, Abdullahi Maigwandu, and other party leaders.
His defection is the latest in a series of political realignments in Sokoto State as political parties begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
