Nigeria’s Super Falcons have held firm in 36th position in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking, reaffirming their status as the top team in Africa.

The updated rankings were released on Thursday via FIFA’s official website.

Fresh off their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph, the Super Falcons have solidified their dominance on the continent.

In a thrilling final, they came from two goals down to edge hosts Morocco 3-2, thanks to second-half strikes from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and substitute Jennifer Echegini.

Okoronkwo, who notched a goal and two assists in the final, was deservedly named Player of the Match.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie earned the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper award, while team captain Rasheedat Ajibade was crowned the Most Valuable Player.

Elsewhere in Africa, WAFCON runners-up Morocco dropped to 64th globally but remain third on the continent, behind South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, who held on to 54th place worldwide. Ghana’s Black Queens, bronze medalists at the tournament, slipped to 67th in the global standings.

Globally, Spain have reclaimed the number one spot, leapfrogging the United States.

The reigning world champions surged to the UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 final with a perfect record of five straight wins, reclaiming a position they previously held from December 2023 to June 2024.

The United States, now ranked second, remain close behind after three emphatic friendly wins at home during the ranking period.

Notably, France made the biggest leap among the top 10, jumping four places to sixth following a strong group stage performance at the Euros, although their campaign ended in the quarter-finals against Germany.

The next FIFA Women’s World Ranking will be announced on December 11, 2025.
