Super Eagles and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman is reportedly nursing a calf issue that could sideline him for a few weeks, casting a temporary shadow over both his pre-season preparations and ongoing transfer speculations.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, via SOSFanta, the Atalanta winger experienced discomfort during Wednesday’s training session.
The pain reportedly intensified while kicking the ball, prompting the medical staff to schedule further examinations to assess the full extent of the injury.
The Italian newspaper, via SOSFanta, are reporting that “after failing some discomfort in his calf after Wednesday’s training session, he began to felt more pain when kicking the ball and is set to undergo an examination to inspect the extent of the injury.”
Although the injury is not considered serious at this stage, the development has effectively ruled the Nigerian international out of full training with the Bergamo-based club for the time being.
“It appears to be nothing major but for now it leaves the Nigerian forward out of full training with Atalanta.”
Meanwhile, amid this fitness concern, Inter Milan have stepped up efforts to lure Lookman to San Siro this summer.
Reports indicated that the Nerazzurri have tabled an opening offer of €40 million for the former Fulham and RB Leipzig star.
However, Atalanta are standing firm on their valuation. The Serie A side reportedly want no less than €50 million for the in-form forward who scored a memorable hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen last season.
“Inter have reportedly submitted a first bid of €40 million to the Bergamo club for the former Fulham player. However, Atalanta value the player at €50 million and are not prepared to budge from this valuation.”
The coming days will be crucial, not only in determining the severity of Lookman’s calf problem but also in gauging whether Inter will return with an improved bid to meet Atalanta’s demands.
