Super Eagles’ Boniface opens up on failed Al Nassr transfer

Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface, has revealed he was fully prepared to join Saudi Arabian giants Al Nassr during the January transfer window, enticed by a lucrative deal that proved too tempting to decline.

The Bayer Leverkusen star came close to sealing the move, with Al Nassr reportedly offering him a jaw-dropping €15 million annual salary, a massive leap from his current €2 million earnings in Germany.

However, the Saudi club eventually decided to sign Colombian forward Jhon Duran from Aston Villa instead.

Speaking on The Culture League podcast, Boniface opened up about how far the deal had progressed and why he was eager to make the switch.

“I have been injured so many times, if I go and play two, three seasons…the money was a lot,” Boniface explained.

He added, “I agreed to the offer because there was also the club, who were offered 70 million Euros, and they wanted the money.

“In football, it was not just about me, but also the club.

“I was ready to go, I packed my bags, gave away my designer clothes and shoes to friends, the plane was waiting.

“But at the last minute it didn’t work out.”

Boniface’s account paints a picture of a move that was all but finalized, only to fall through at the final moment, a twist that left the forward grounded, despite having already said his goodbyes.
