A protest by students of Omololu Olunloyo Polytechnic in Ibadan has led to significant traffic disruptions around the institution’s main gate and adjoining roads on Tuesday.
According to the Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority, the demonstration has affected major routes, including the Sango–Eleyele axis, Elewure Housing Road, Awolowo Junction, and the Secretariat Main Gate under the bridge in Bodija, all of which may experience temporary blockages.
The protest, which began in the early hours of the day, saw students occupying the entrance of the polytechnic, causing congestion and potential gridlock for motorists using those routes.
In a public advisory issued by the agency, motorists traveling between Sango, Eleyele, Apete, and Ijokodo have been urged to consider alternative routes through Dugbe, Mokola, or Ajibode.
“Due to the student unrest, there may be temporary blockage of major junctions in the area,” the statement read. “We advise all road users to explore other options to avoid unnecessary delays and confrontation.”
Residents and commuters around Sango, Elewure, Awolowo Junction, and Bodija are also being encouraged to remain calm and cooperate with traffic officials.
“We appeal to all road users to remain calm, cooperate with traffic officers, and follow all traffic diversion signs,” said Adeoye Ayoade Esq. FCSS, who signed the notice on behalf of the Executive Chairman of OYRTMA.
