Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has responded to critics of his public dancing, urging them to focus on his political achievements rather than his personal expressions of joy.
Speaking at a recent event, Governor Adeleke dismissed the criticism, pointing out that other political leaders, including President Bola Tinubu and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also dance publicly without facing similar backlash.
In a video shared widely on X (formerly Twitter), Adeleke defended his right to dance, stating: “Babajide Sanwo-Olu is dancing. Everybody is dancing. Even Baba Bola Tinubu is dancing. So, no law that says just because you are a governor, you can’t dance.”
He emphasized that dancing is a harmless form of self-expression and should not overshadow his governance record.
“Stop judging me just because I choose to express myself through dancing. It is my joy, my freedom, and an essential part of who I am. If it brings me happiness and harms no one, then there is no reason it should be condemned.”
Adeleke argued that his dancing does not interfere with his duties as governor and should not be used to discredit his political accomplishments. He called for an end to what he described as unfair scrutiny, noting that public officials should not be restricted from harmless personal expressions.
The governor, known for his energetic dance moves at public events, has often faced mixed reactions, with some praising his relatability and others questioning its appropriateness for a sitting governor.
