Chelsea winger, Raheem Sterling, who spent last season on loan at Arsenal, has been training away from the senior squad and does not feature in Enzo Maresca’s plans for the upcoming campaign.
As reported by BBC Sport (via Mirror), Bayer Leverkusen have joined the list of clubs expressing interest in the former England international.
Interestingly, Leverkusen’s manager Erik ten Hag, appointed in May, had previously shown a strong interest in Sterling during his time at Manchester United.
“The Red Devils were interested in him when he was frozen out of the Blues squad at the start of last season, but a move never materialised,” the report said.
Despite having spent seven years at United’s fierce rivals Manchester City, Sterling had remained open to making the switch to Old Trafford.
“Now the pair could finally work together in Germany,” the report added.
Chelsea are reportedly open to letting the 30-year-old leave for a fee in the region of £20 million, with Juventus also monitoring his situation.
Sterling finds himself among a group of senior players excluded from the Blues’ main squad, a list that includes Joao Felix, Axel Disasi, Ben Chilwell, and, until his recent £25 million transfer to Bournemouth, Djordje Petrovic.
He still has two years remaining on his current contract, worth £325,000 per week.
Last season at Arsenal, Sterling featured in 28 matches, scoring once and providing five assists.
