Popular entertainer Speed Darlington is currently being investigated after a video surfaced on his Instagram account where he appeared to confess to defiling a 15-year-old girl.
In the video, which was recorded in Igbo language, Darlington narrated the incident, claiming it took place at an unnamed hotel.
He described how the girl was left bleeding after the sexual encounter, stating that he paid hotel staff N2,000 to change the bedsheets. The video quickly sparked outrage on social media, with many users calling for his immediate arrest and prosecution.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has since responded to the viral clip, acknowledging the disturbing nature of the allegations.
“The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency is aware of the disturbing video currently circulating online, in which a popular entertainer allegedly admits to engaging in unlawful sexual activity with a minor,” the agency stated.
However, the DSVA noted that since the location of the incident was not specified in the video, its jurisdiction may be limited.
“While the individual in question did not specify the location of the incident during the Instagram Live session, we must clarify that the DSVA’s jurisdiction is limited to Lagos State. In view of the above, and in line with our commitment to justice, we have escalated the situation to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons,” the agency added in its statement on X.
The case has drawn widespread condemnation, with activists and social media users demanding a thorough investigation. Authorities are yet to confirm whether an official complaint has been filed or if Darlington has been taken into custody. The entertainer has not issued any further statements since the video went viral.
