Spanish club Sevilla terminate Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract

Sevilla have confirmed the mutual termination of Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract, leaving the Nigerian striker without a club as the transfer window closed on Monday.

The decision means the Super Eagles star is now available as a free agent and can secure a move outside the window.

Reports from Sky Sports suggested that Celtic are already monitoring the 28-year-old as a potential addition to their attack.

The Scottish champions recently sanctioned the sale of Adam Idah to Swansea City in a £6 million deal, creating space for a new forward.

Manager Brendan Rodgers, who previously worked with Iheanacho at Leicester City, is keen on reuniting with the player in Glasgow.

Celtic had initially pursued Chelsea’s David Datro Fofana, but the Ivorian forward is instead expected to join Charlton Athletic on loan.

That development has placed Iheanacho firmly on Rodgers’ radar as the Parkhead club seek to reinforce their frontline ahead of the new campaign.
