Slot laments ‘leaking Liverpool defense after Van Dijk’s striker demand

Liverpool boss, Arne Slot, has pushed back against Virgil van Dijk’s suggestion that the club should sign another striker before the Premier League kicks off.

Following Sunday’s Community Shield defeat to Crystal Palace, Van Dijk had urged the Reds to bolster their attacking ranks after the departures of Luis Díaz and Darwin Núñez.

But speaking to talkSPORT, Slot dismissed the idea that Liverpool are short of firepower.

“I believe we have more than enough options to win games,” the Dutchman said. “With the squad we have, we should be capable of scoring goals and we did that against Palace. We scored twice, which is more than we managed against them home or away last season.”

Slot stressed that his main focus lies elsewhere. “My last concern is our attacking quality. If anything, I’m more focused on the number of goals we’ve conceded in pre-season, which isn’t up to our standard,” he added.
