The United States has issued a strong warning to international students, including Nigerians, about the consequences of breaching student visa regulations.

In a message posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Monday, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria cautioned that students who drop out of school, skip classes, or abandon their academic programs without informing their institutions risk having their visas canceled.

It further warned that such violations could jeopardize their chances of obtaining U.S. visas in the future.

The mission stated, “If you drop out, skip classes, or leave your programmes of study without informing your school, your student visa may be revoked, and you may lose eligibility for future U.S. visas.”

The advisory urged all student visa holders to strictly comply with the conditions attached to their visas and ensure they maintain good academic standing.

“Always adhere to the terms of your visa and maintain your student status to avoid any issues,” the mission emphasized.

The warning comes as part of ongoing efforts by U.S. authorities to enforce immigration laws and ensure that foreign students abide by the rules governing their stay in the country.
