Vice-President Kashim Shettima has strongly condemned Friday night’s suicide bombing attack at a local food joint in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State, which resulted in multiple fatalities.

In an official statement released Saturday, Shettima described the incident as “a heinous act of terrorism against innocent civilians” and called for swift action from security agencies.

“Our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones in this senseless act of violence,” the Vice-President stated. “The government stands with them in this difficult time and will provide all necessary support.”

Shettima, who extended condolences to bereaved families and the Borno State community, emphasized the Federal Government’s resolve to pursue the attackers:

“The administration of His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, remains committed to restoring lasting peace and security to the Northeast and all parts of Nigeria. We will not allow our enemies to undermine the progress we have made in degrading their capabilities.”

The Vice-President directed relevant agencies to: Expedite investigations into the attack; Ensure victims and bereaved families receive urgent support; Bring perpetrators to justice.

Shettima assured Nigerians that the Federal Government “will not relent in its efforts to ensure that those responsible for the despicable act face the full weight of the law.”

The attack marks the latest security challenge in Borno State, the epicenter of Nigeria’s 15-year insurgency, despite recent military gains against terrorist groups. Security analysts note that such asymmetric attacks often increase during the rainy season when mobility improves for non-state armed groups.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for Friday’s bombing, which occurred at a crowded evening food spot – a soft target frequently exploited by insurgents to maximize civilian casualties. Local authorities are working with security forces to determine the exact casualty figures and identify the bombers.

The Vice-President’s statement reaffirms the Tinubu administration’s counterterrorism priorities amid growing public concerns about resurgent attacks in the Northeast. Shettima, a former Borno State governor with deep ties to the region, has been actively involved in coordinating the Federal Government’s security and humanitarian response in the area.
