Shehu Sani tackles Northern leaders accusing Tinubu of nepotism

Former federal lawmaker, Shehu Sani, has criticized northern leaders for voicing complaints about nepotism in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Recall that various northern groups have accused Tinubu of favouring Yoruba individuals, particularly from Lagos, in key appointments.

The chairman of the Arewa Economic Forum, Ibrahim Dandakata, recently expressed concerns over what he described as a deliberate strategy by Tinubu to limit his appointments to members of his ethnic group.

In a post on his X handle, Sani responded by highlighting that many of those now complaining remained silent during the tenure of former President Muhammadu Buhari, when similar concerns about ethnic favoritism were prevalent.

He commended the Yoruba sociopolitical group Afenifere for publicly addressing the issue of uneven federal appointments, despite the advantages these appointments brought to their region.

Sani remarked that many individuals take satisfaction in seeing members of their own ethnic group in leadership positions, which he identified as a root cause of nepotism.

He wrote, “The Afenifere group from the South West has raised a voice against lopsided federal appointments, despite that it benefits its region. Their northern counterpart that is now talking kept mute when it was happening under the past leadership.

“Many people are happier when they enter into an office and see a man from their ethnic group at the helm of affairs. That is the seed of nepotism.”
