Nigeria’s dominance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has been further underscored, with four Super Falcons players, Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie, earning spots in the tournament’s Best XI.
The Confederation of African Football released the all-star team on Monday, based on assessments by the tournament’s technical study group.
The Nigerian quartet stood out for their stellar individual contributions throughout the campaign.
Super Falcons’ goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, 24, was a wall between the sticks, keeping four clean sheets and ultimately claiming the Best Goalkeeper award for Morocco 2024.
Michelle Alozie of Houston Dash impressed in the right-back position and made five solid appearances.
Her efforts earned her the title of best right-back in the tournament.
AFC Toronto striker Esther Okoronkwo played an instrumental role in Nigeria’s march to the title.
The 27-year-old was a constant threat in attack, delivering two goals and six assists across six games. She also walked away with two Woman of the Match accolades.
Team captain Rasheedat Ajibade exemplified leadership on the pitch. She scored once, added two assists, and collected three Woman of the Match awards.
Ajibade’s consistent brilliance earned her the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament.
South Africa’s Banyana Banyana were also well represented with Karabo Dlamini, Bambanani Mbane, and Refiloe Jane making the cut.
Hosts Morocco had Ghizlane Chebbak and Ibtissam Jiraidi in the selection, while Ghana’s Portia Boakye and Grace Asantewaa rounded out the prestigious list.
