Gianluca Scamacca finally ended his long wait for a Serie A goal, but Atalanta could only manage a 1-1 draw against newly promoted Pisa in Ivan Juric’s first game in charge.
Juric’s debut on the Atalanta bench came under difficult circumstances, as Ademola Lookman was absent while pushing for a transfer, Ederson was not fully fit, and both Sead Kolasinac and Mitchel Bakker were sidelined.
Pisa boss Alberto Gilardino also had injury headaches, missing the likes of Alexander Lind, Tomas Esteves, Henrik Meister, Isak Vural, Mateus Lusuardi, and Francesco Coppola.
Despite early pressure from La Dea, it was the visitors who struck first. Samuele Angori knocked down an Idrissa Toure cross at the far post, with Atalanta defender Isak Hien inadvertently turning it into his own net.
Atalanta nearly responded through Raoul Bellanova, only for a last-ditch deflection to deny him, while Marco Carnesecchi had to pull off a superb save to keep out a header from Stefano Moreo at the other end.
After the break, Daniel Maldini miscontrolled a lofted ball from Charles De Ketelaere, but Scamacca brought Atalanta level.
The striker received a pass from Mario Pašalić, skipped past his marker, and drilled a precise finish into the bottom corner. It was his first league goal in more than 450 days, coming after the ACL injury he suffered in August 2024.
The equalizer sparked Atalanta into life. Berat Djimsiti went close with a wild effort, Scamacca’s powerful header rattled the bar, and Pisa goalkeeper Adrian Semper produced two outstanding saves, first tipping over a Bellanova header, then standing tall to deny Maldini in a one-on-one.
In the end, Juric’s men were forced to settle for a point, while Pisa left Bergamo with a spirited result on their Serie A return.
