AC Milan revived their aspirations for European qualification with a spirited 3-1 comeback win over Bologna in Friday’s Serie A clash, a timely boost ahead of their Italian Cup final showdown next week.
Riccardo Orsolini had given Bologna the lead just three minutes into the second half with his 13th goal of the season, seemingly putting the visitors on course for victory.
However, Santiago Gimenez’s double and a goal from Christian Pulisic swung the momentum in Milan’s favour.
The Rossoneri’s third consecutive league triumph lifted them to eighth place, narrowing the gap to just three points behind fourth-placed trio Juventus, Roma, and Lazio, with only two fixtures left in the league calendar.
Juventus travel to Lazio on Saturday, while Roma, who will host Milan next weekend , visit Atalanta on Monday.
Atalanta currently hold a five-point advantage over the chasing pack and appear poised to secure one of the last two Champions League spots.
Napoli and Inter Milan, both assured of qualification, are locked in a battle for the Serie A title.
Meanwhile, Bologna, sitting seventh and two points clear of Milan, remain in contention for back-to-back Champions League appearances.
They are also eyeing their first major silverware in over five decades when they meet Milan in Wednesday’s domestic cup final.
