The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has instituted legal action against the administration of President Bola Tinubu at the ECOWAS Court of Justice over its failure to release a forensic audit report allegedly detailing the disappearance of N6 trillion from the coffers of the Niger Delta Development Commission.

SERAP announced the lawsuit early Sunday via its official social media handle, stating that the move is part of its ongoing campaign to ensure transparency and accountability in public finance management under the Tinubu-led government.

“We’ve sued the Tinubu administration at the ECOWAS Court of Justice over the failure to publish the forensic report on the Niger Delta Development Commission documenting allegations of missing N6 trillion in the commission,” the group posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The organisation insists that the public has a right to know the outcome of the forensic investigation, which was initiated amid widespread claims of financial mismanagement within the NDDC.

SERAP maintains that withholding the report undermines efforts to combat corruption and denies citizens access to vital information about the use of public resources.

“The deliberate refusal to release the forensic audit amounts to a breach of Nigeria’s obligations under the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and other international instruments guaranteeing the right to information and transparency in governance,” SERAP added in a follow-up statement.
