Sean Dyche replaces Postecoglou at Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest have named Sean Dyche as their third manager of the season, signing him on a contract that runs until 2027, following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou, the club confirmed.

Postecoglou was relieved of his duties just minutes after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea, having failed to record a single win in eight Premier League games.

His tenure lasted only 39 days.

He had initially succeeded Nuno Espírito Santo, who left Forest in September, making Dyche the latest figure to take the reins at the City Ground.

According to ESPN sources, Forest also considered former Italy manager Roberto Mancini for the role.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis is reportedly an admirer of Fulham manager Marco Silva, though appointing Silva would have required a substantial compensation fee, whereas Dyche was available and unattached.

“Nottingham Forest is delighted to confirm the appointment of Sean Dyche as the club’s new head coach, following a thorough recruitment process led by Global Head of Football, Edu Gaspar, and Global Technical Director, George Syrianos,” the club said in a statement.

“The former Forest youth player joins the club on a contract running until the summer of 2027 and will take charge of his first match on Thursday night as the Reds take on FC Porto in the Europa League.

“As a former Forest youth player who lives locally, Dyche also has a deep understanding of the values and pride of Forest and its supporters. With his character, tactical acumen and man-management skills, his appointment represents the best opportunity for a successful and competitive season across both domestic and European competitions.”

Dyche, who previously managed Watford, Burnley, and Everton, left the latter in January 2025.

Familiar with Forest’s culture, he is expected to bring former club players and long-time assistants Ian Woan and Steve Stone with him.

Forest currently sit 18th in the Premier League table and are also competing in the Europa League, having secured a seventh-place finish last season.
