Former Nigerian international, Dimeji Lawal, has described Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Bloemfontein as a “make-or-break” encounter for the Super Eagles.

His comments came after Nigeria secured a 1-0 victory over Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday, a result that has reignited their hopes of reaching the World Cup.

Tolu Arokodare was the hero of the match, scoring the lone goal six minutes into the second half with a close-range volley.

The win lifts Nigeria to third in the Group C standings, six points adrift of leaders South Africa, with only three games left to play.

The Super Eagles now face a crucial trip to Bloemfontein on Tuesday, a fixture that could prove decisive for their qualification hopes.

Speaking to Completesports.com after the match, Lawal said the team must build on their victory over Rwanda and focus on the bigger challenge ahead.

“Regardless of how the players played today against Rwanda, the most important thing is for the Super Eagles to pick up the maximum points.

“Having achieved this, the team must now focus on the big clash against South Africa because that may decide who qualifies for the World Cup.

“At the moment, I want to appreciate the players for getting the victory and believe they will get the job done in South Africa.”
