S’Eagles’ Chukwueze subbed as Milan beat Liverpool 4-2 in Hong Kong friendly

Super Eagles winger, Samuel Chukwueze, made a second-half appearance as AC Milan secured a 4-2 victory over Liverpool in a high-profile pre-season clash held in Hong Kong on Saturday.

Chukwueze, who started on the bench, was introduced in the 63rd minute to replace Rafael Leao.

The match carried an emotional tone, as Liverpool icon Kenny Dalglish laid a wreath prior to kickoff.

Players wore shirts marked with “Diogo J 20” to honour late teammate Diogo Jota, who tragically passed away in a car crash alongside his brother Andre Silva in Spain earlier this month.

Milan entered the contest looking to bounce back after a narrow 1-0 loss to Arsenal in their opening pre-season fixture.

They made a strong start, capitalizing on an early chance in the 10th minute when Leao slotted home a pass from Christian Pulisic to give the Rossoneri the lead.

Liverpool responded through Dominik Szoboszlai, who equalized 20 minutes later with a superb curling strike from the edge of the area.

The Hungarian latched onto a well-timed pass from Rio Ngumoha, who had been picked out by a long ball from Ryan Gravenberch.

Shortly after the break, Milan surged back in front. Leao tore down the left wing, outpacing Conor Bradley, and squared a precise ball to Ruben Loftus-Cheek who calmly finished from close range.

Liverpool had a chance to draw level again, but Mohamed Salah squandered a clear opportunity set up by Florian Wirtz.

The Reds’ defence grew increasingly shaky as the game progressed, and Milan took full advantage when Noah Okafor netted their third goal in the 60th minute.

Though Cody Gakpo headed in a consolation for Liverpool in stoppage time, Milan had the final say. Okafor pounced again, capitalizing on a defensive blunder between Kostas Tsimikas and new signing Giorgi Mamardashvili, who misjudged a rush out of his box.
