SDP appoints Senator Ugochukwu Uba as deputy national chairman

The National Working Committee of the Social Democratic Party has announced the appointment of Senator Ugochukwu Uba as the party’s new Deputy National Chairman (South).

The decision was made during an NWC meeting presided over by the party’s National Chairman, with the official announcement issued by the SDP spokesman.

Senator Uba, a scholar, former public servant, and seasoned politician from Anambra State, brings extensive political and administrative experience to the role.

He previously served as a Director General and later as a Commissioner in Anambra State before being elected to the Senate in 2003, where he served until 2007.

Following his tenure in politics, he worked as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Abuja until 2021.

A member of the SDP stakeholders group, Dr. Yinusa Muhammad, provided historical context, stating that the party first created the dual positions of Deputy National Chairmen (North and South) in 2018.

Senator Uba was the Secretary of the National Election Committee of the party in April 2022 and a member of the National Convention Committee also in June 2022, was the Chairman of the National Presidential Technical Committee of SDP in August 2022, and the Deputy Chairman of the SDP National Presidential Council in November 2022.
