The Federal Government has announced that Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, will be public holidays in observance of this year’s Eid-ul-Adha festival.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Ministry of Interior, signed by its Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani. The announcement was made on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Tunji-Ojo extended warm wishes to Muslims across the country and in the diaspora, encouraging them to embrace the virtues of sacrifice and unwavering faith as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him).

“As we celebrate this sacred occasion, I urge the Muslim Ummah to reflect on the essence of Eid-ul-Adha, which is rooted in sacrifice, obedience, and compassion,” the minister stated.

He also urged Nigerians to use the festive period to offer prayers for peace and progress in the country, while reiterating the government’s commitment to delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“These holidays are not just to mark a religious festival, but also to give Nigerians an opportunity to reflect on our collective journey and contribute to the nation’s development,” Tunji-Ojo added.

He called on citizens to support the government’s ongoing reforms aimed at revitalizing the country’s economy and social fabric.

“Together, we can restore Nigeria’s glory as a united and prosperous nation,” he said.

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant celebrations in Islam, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God.
