Mohamed Salah has been honoured as the Premier League Player of the Season for the second time, following his pivotal role in Liverpool’s pursuit of a record-tying 20th English league title.

The 32-year-old Egyptian forward clinched the award after netting 28 league goals, five more than any other player and providing 18 assists during the campaign.

As Liverpool prepare for Sunday’s final match against FA Cup champions Crystal Palace, Salah sits just two assists shy of matching the single-season assist record held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

This prestigious award is determined by a combination of public votes and input from a panel of football experts. Salah first earned the accolade in the 2017-18 season.

His win ends a four-season streak of Manchester City players claiming the honor. The last non-City player to win was Salah’s Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk in the 2018-19 season.

Van Dijk, who renewed his contract with Liverpool earlier this season just like Salah, was among the contenders Salah surpassed in the voting.

Other nominees included Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch, Arsenal’s Declan Rice, Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood.

Additionally, Salah was recently named the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year, capturing nearly 90 percent of the votes, marking the largest winning margin recorded this century.
