Former Manchester United forward, Wayne Rooney, has urged manager Ruben Amorim to turn around the club’s poor start to the season, insisting he can no longer hide behind excuses.
Despite splashing close to £200million on new recruits during the summer transfer window, United have collected just a single point from their first two Premier League fixtures.
Rooney believes the sluggish opening is a cause for concern, particularly after last season’s disastrous campaign that saw the Red Devils slump to a 15th-place finish.
“There’s no excuses now for the manager this season. He’s got to start getting results and getting them quickly,” Rooney said on the BBC podcast The Wayne Rooney Show.
“Once you start getting into October or November, if results don’t change drastically that’s when the pressure comes.
“They needed to hit the ground running this season and one point from six is a bit of a worry.”
