Ronaldo to extend Al-Nassr stay, skip Club World Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly decided to extend his stay at Al-Nassr, ruling out any participation in this summer’s Club World Cup.

The 40-year-old recently wrapped up his third season in the Saudi Pro League, finishing as the league’s top scorer for the second consecutive year.

Despite his individual success, Al-Nassr endured a disappointing campaign, ending the season in third place and missing out on qualification for the AFC Champions League.

Following Al-Nassr’s final fixture on Monday, a 3-2 loss to Al-Fateh, Ronaldo shared a cryptic message on social media that hinted at his departure.

“This chapter is over,” he wrote, posting an image of himself in the Al-Nassr jersey.

“The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.”

His post fueled speculation that he might be on the move, with Al-Hilal reportedly in talks to sign him on a free transfer once his contract expires on June 30.

Moroccan giants, Wydad Athletic Club, were also said to have initiated discussions to bring him in for their Club World Cup campaign.

However, according to FootMercato, Ronaldo has already reached an agreement with Al-Nassr to renew his contract.

The deal has reportedly been signed, and the Portuguese forward is expected to remain with the Riyadh-based club for two more seasons.

Speaking on the matter, Al-Nassr’s sporting director Fernando Hierro confirmed ongoing talks with Ronaldo.

“We are still in negotiations with Cristiano,” said Hierro on Thursday. “Hopefully we can find a solution on a renewal.

“Cris is now with his national team, with a few days off. His contract runs until June 30. We’ll continue working so that all parties can reach an understanding.

“Without a doubt, everyone is working to ensure he continues here. There is a strong push from the entire country for him to stay and that will also be very important for him.”
