The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the violent assault and forced resignation of Hon. Goodluck Iheanachor, Sole Administrator of Ahoada-East Local Government Area, by suspected thugs last Thursday.
In a statement on Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Grace Iringe-Koko revealed the shocking details of the June 20 attack, which occurred around 1:40 p.m. at the council secretariat.
“During the attack, the hoodlums assaulted the Sole Administrator, stole his mobile phones, forced him to sign a letter purporting his resignation, and carted away vital documents, both official and personal,” Iringe-Koko stated.
The assault was reportedly led by the administrator’s own Chief Security Officer, Mr. Hector Ekakita, and his Chief of Staff, who allegedly mobilized over 30 assailants. Viral videos showed Iheanachor and Council Secretary Mr. Alabi being physically brutalized before the coerced resignation.
Iringe-Koko confirmed: “The Rivers State Police Command unequivocally condemns this reprehensible act and has taken swift action. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, after visiting the scene with other security heads, has directed all implicated individuals to report to the State Headquarters.”
The police spokesperson urged calm, stating: “The CP urges all citizens to remain calm, law-abiding, and to cooperate with authorities to ensure peace and stability in the state.”
