A faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, has passed a bill to amend the Rivers State Education (Return of Schools) Law No. 1 of 2005.
The amendment aims to bring schools in the state under government control, enabling more effective management and better catering to the educational needs of girls in Asari Toru Local Government Area and beyond.
The bill, sponsored by Tekenari Granville, representing Asari-Toru state Constituency II, seeks to correct a historical mistake by reclaiming Kalabari Girls High School, Buguma from the church and returning it to government control, according to Politics Nigeria.
The House thoroughly reviewed the Bill’s clauses before passing it.
The passage of the bill marks a significant step towards reclaiming control of schools in Rivers State and ensuring improved education management.
