The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has called on members of the 2025 Batch A Stream I of the National Youth Service Corps posted to the state to demonstrate selflessness and commitment as they commence their service year.
The charge was delivered on Tuesday during the formal closing ceremony of the three-week orientation programme at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area.
Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board, Prof. Ibibia Lucky Worika, Ibas emphasized the importance of upholding values of patriotism and responsibility throughout their national assignment.
According to a statement issued by the Head of the Press Unit, Juliana Masi, Ibas reassured the Corps members of the warm hospitality and goodwill awaiting them across Rivers State.
He encouraged them to immerse themselves in their host communities and play active roles in local development.
“Your service is an opportunity to leave lasting legacies in your host communities.
“Approach your assignments with commitment, innovation, and a genuine desire to make a difference,” he stated.
Also addressing the gathering, Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, praised the Corps members for their impressive conduct and resilience throughout the orientation course, noting their adaptability to the disciplined camp environment.
He expressed optimism that they would thrive in their primary assignments, which span vital sectors including education, healthcare, agriculture, and rural development.
Oleghe also urged community stakeholders, leaders, and employers to provide suitable accommodation and ensure the welfare of Corps members, to foster effective service delivery.
