The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), has instructed all Heads of Local Government Administration in the state to submit detailed reports on their councils to the Ministry of Local Government Affairs.
The directive, issued through a memo signed by Dr. Itong Awani, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, was addressed to all local government heads.
“I am also to inform you that all submissions using the format listed below should reach the office of the undersigned on or before Wednesday, 26th March 2025, for onward transmission to the office of the Sole Administrator, Government House, Port Harcourt, for further necessary action,” the memo read.
Vice Admiral Ibas assumed his position last week after being sworn in by President Bola Tinubu, following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State. The emergency, which was announced in a national broadcast last Tuesday, resulted in the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months. President Tinubu cited ongoing political instability, constitutional violations, and security threats as the reasons for the unprecedented move.
The political turmoil in Rivers State has largely been driven by a power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
