The minority caucus in Nigeria’s House of Representatives has called on the federal and Plateau State governments to immediately launch a thorough investigation into the recent killing of 13 travelers in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The victims, all residents of the Basawa community in Zaria, Kaduna State, were en route to a wedding ceremony when they were ambushed and killed by a mob.
Their vehicle, which belonged to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, was set ablaze during the attack.
In a statement released by the Minority Leader of the House, the caucus strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a brutal and senseless act of violence.
They demanded justice for the deceased and urged authorities to ensure that the injured receive adequate medical care.
The lawmakers emphasized the need for a coordinated approach involving justice, peacebuilding, security enhancement, and dialogue to address the persistent violence in Plateau and other parts of the country.
They also called for the implementation of early warning systems and timely prosecution of those responsible for such acts.
The caucus expressed their sympathies to the bereaved families and extended their condolences to the people of Kaduna State.
