Remo Stars Football Club were officially crowned their first-ever Nigeria Premier Football League Champions on Sunday, following a resounding 4-1 victory over Ikorodu City at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.

The NPFL trophy was presented to the team by Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in front of an ecstatic crowd, marking a historic moment for the Ogun-based club.

This victory sealed Remo Stars’ maiden top-tier title, capping off a remarkable season.

Despite an early setback with a goal conceded in the 15th minute, Remo Stars bounced back with four unanswered goals. Sikiru Alimi equalized in the 37th minute, and Ibrahim Shuaib gave them the lead in the 41st.

Birthday boy Babatunde Bello extended their advantage in the 48th minute, and Olamilekan Adedayo completed the rout with a goal in the 67th minute.

The win pushed Remo Stars to 71 points, making their title unassailable with one match still to be played.

Founded in 2004 by Kunle Soname, the club’s rise from lower-division football to NPFL champions is a historic achievement for the Southwest region, as they become the first team from the zone to win the league since Julius Berger in 1991.

Having secured the title, Remo Stars will represent Nigeria in the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.
