Real Madrid hail Barcelona after La Liga title win

Real Madrid have extended their congratulations to arch-rivals Barcelona, who were officially crowned La Liga champions on Thursday.

Barcelona clinched their 28th Spanish top-flight title with a commanding 2-0 victory over Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium.

Rising star, Lamine Yamal, stole the spotlight, netting the opener and setting up the second goal in a brilliant individual display.

Following the Blaugrana’s title-clinching triumph, Real Madrid acknowledged their achievement via a post on their official X account, writing, “Congratulations to @FCBarcelona on their 2024–2025 LaLiga title.”

This latest success marks Barcelona’s third major trophy of the season, having already secured the Spanish Super Cup and Copa del Rey, each one earned at the expense of their El Clásico rivals.

Although Real Madrid picked up a narrow win over Mallorca the previous night, Hansi Flick’s men needed just one more win to mathematically seal the league, which they did with two games left to play.

After a tense, goalless first half, Yamal broke the deadlock soon after the interval with a spectacular strike. Espanyol’s Leandro Cabrera was later shown a straight red card for lashing out at Yamal, and Lopez sealed the victory in stoppage time.

Tragically, the match was preceded by a worrying incident outside the stadium, where a car reportedly plowed into a crowd after the driver lost control.

According to Spanish media, several individuals were hurt, though a public announcement assured fans that the situation was under control and that there were no serious injuries.

Nevertheless, some Espanyol supporters exited the stands in protest, believing the match should have been called off.
