Manchester United forward, Marcus Rashford, is reportedly on the verge of sealing a loan move to Barcelona, with the Spanish giants keen on securing a permanent deal depending on his performance, according to Sky Sports.
Sources say the two clubs have reached a broad agreement in principle for the 27-year-old, who could finally get his long-desired move to Camp Nou.
Under the proposed arrangement, Barcelona would have the option to sign Rashford permanently at the end of the 2025/26 season, with negotiations ongoing over the potential transfer fee.
The Catalan side is expected to shoulder the full cost of Rashford’s wages during the loan, a move seen as a vote of confidence in the England international’s quality and potential fit within Hansi Flick’s tactical plans.
Rashford, who came through United’s academy, has two years remaining on his current deal.
However, his time at Old Trafford appears to be drawing to a close, particularly after reports emerged of a rift with incoming manager Ruben Amorim.
The Portuguese tactician was quoted as saying he would prefer to start his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach rather than Rashford, due to perceived poor work ethic.
Rashford’s desire to play in Spain has been no secret. He previously expressed interest in joining Barcelona during the January window before a brief spell at Aston Villa.
His recent remarks during an interaction with a Spanish influencer further fuelled speculation.
“Yes, for sure. Everyone wants to play with the best. Hopefully… we’ll see,” he responded when asked if he would like to play alongside Barca’s young sensation, Lamine Yamal.
Barcelona had initially targeted Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, but those efforts were rebuffed, prompting the club to pivot toward Rashford.
Head coach, Hansi Flick, reportedly held direct talks with the England star and has since approved the move.
Rashford is among five Manchester United players granted extended time off this summer to weigh up exit options. With this development, his next chapter may very well unfold in La Liga.
