Marcus Rashford has moved to clarify recent comments that sparked backlash from Manchester United supporters after some fans accused him of overlooking the club while celebrating his England recall.
The forward drew reactions online after expressing gratitude to coaches and clubs that played key roles in reviving his career over the last 18 months following his inclusion in England’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad.
In a post shared on his Instagram Story, Rashford thanked several figures and clubs, including Hansi Flick, Unai Emery, FC Barcelona and Aston Villa, but made no mention of Manchester United.
The omission quickly fueled speculation among supporters, with some interpreting the post as a subtle swipe at his parent club amid ongoing uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford.
However, Rashford later addressed the controversy in a post on X on Friday, insisting there was no hidden message aimed at Manchester United.
“To make my IG story clear. It’s not a dig of any sort! I’m a MU supporter, and that remains,” Rashford wrote Friday.
“I was showing gratitude to the clubs and coaches that I have worked with over the past 18 months, they have played a big role in this call up.”
The clarification has since triggered widespread debate among fans, many of whom continue to discuss the relationship between the academy graduate and the club where he established himself as one of England’s leading forwards.
Rashford’s latest England recall follows a challenging spell in his career, during which he struggled with inconsistent performances, injuries and heavy scrutiny at Manchester United before loan stints with Aston Villa and Barcelona helped restore his form.
The 28-year-old is now expected to turn his full attention to international duty as England prepare for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
