Arsenal’s Champions League dreams came to an end after suffering a 3-1 aggregate loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals.
Despite heading to Paris with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg at the Emirates, Mikel Arteta’s men couldn’t hold off a spirited PSG comeback.
The Gunners started brightly, forcing Gianluigi Donnarumma into early saves from Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard, but couldn’t make their dominance count.
PSG capitalized on that missed momentum, and just before halftime, Fabian Ruiz unleashed a superb half-volley from the edge of the box, beating David Raya to level the tie on aggregate.
The French giants had the opportunity to stretch their lead when a handball by Myles Lewis-Skelly resulted in a penalty. However, Raya kept Arsenal in the contest with a crucial stop to deny Vitinha from the spot.
Arsenal’s reprieve didn’t last long. Only three minutes later, Achraf Hakimi dispossessed Thomas Partey and curled a stunning strike into the bottom corner, swinging the tie firmly in PSG’s favor.
Bukayo Saka briefly reignited hope for the visitors with a goal just minutes after Hakimi’s, but the winger would later miss a crucial chance in the closing stages, which might have sparked a late rally.
PSG, now just one game away from European glory, move on to face Inter Milan in Munich later this month as Luis Enrique’s men chase their first-ever Champions League crown.
