Paris Saint-Germain coach, Luis Enrique, has hailed his side’s Champions League triumph as the fulfillment of the club’s ultimate ambition, following a resounding 5-0 victory over Inter Milan at the Allianz Arena.
Since the club’s acquisition by Qatari owners in 2011, PSG has dominated French football with 11 Ligue 1 titles in 13 seasons.
Yet the most coveted prize, the UEFA Champions League, had remained painfully out of reach, despite heavy investment and lofty expectations.
But on Saturday night, the Parisian giants dismantled Inter in stunning fashion, delivering a performance that silenced years of doubt and frustration.
Luis Enrique, who previously lifted the Champions League with Barcelona in 2015, revealed that winning the European crown had been his top objective since arriving at the club in 2023.
“On my first day at the PSG campus, my French was even worse than it is today. But I said the ultimate goal for me as a coach was to fill the trophy cabinet,” the Spaniard said. “The only trophy missing was Champions League. And we’ve ticked that box. We were ambitious, and we did it.
“It’s in the bag and it’s coming home with us tomorrow.”
Among the night’s standout performances, Enrique highlighted the brilliance of winger Ousmane Dembélé, who tormented Inter’s defense throughout the match.
The coach did not hold back his admiration, saying, “He deserves to win the Ballon d’Or.”
A deeply personal moment followed the final whistle as PSG supporters unveiled a touching tribute to Enrique’s late daughter, Xana, who died of cancer in 2019 at the age of nine.
The banner showed a father and daughter planting a PSG flag in the ground, echoing a moment shared by the pair with a Barcelona flag a decade earlier.
“It was emotional. It’s beautiful that the supporters thought about me and my family. But I don’t need to win the Champions League or even a game to think about my daughter,” Enrique said. “She’s always with me. She’s supporting me, and our family, and I feel her presence.”
With this historic win, PSG not only completed their trophy collection but also created a night that will be etched in the hearts of fans and in the soul of their manager.
