A death row inmate, identified as Abba Hassan, has escaped from the Maximum Security Custodial Centre in Potiskum, Yobe State.
The Yobe State Police Command confirmed the jailbreak in a statement issued on Saturday, revealing that the incident occurred on October 31, 2025.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the fugitive, who hails from Maiduguri in Borno State, was awaiting execution before his escape.
He urged residents across Yobe and neighbouring states to remain vigilant and promptly report any information that could assist in locating the escapee.
“People should not try to confront or arrest him on their own. For your safety, report to the nearest police station or correctional centre,” the statement read.
The police also provided an emergency contact, 08038452982, for individuals with credible information about Hassan’s whereabouts.
SP Abdulkarim appreciated the public for their cooperation, assuring that the police are working closely with other security agencies to rearrest the fugitive and maintain security in the state.
