The Rivers State Police Command has rescued a heavily pregnant woman from a suspected child trafficking syndicate operating between Rivers and Abia states.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the breakthrough to journalists in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, disclosing that two suspects—28-year-old Miss Sunshine Hart and 38-year-old Mr. Kingsley Ekocha—were arrested in Aba, Abia State, following intelligence-led operations.

“On June 24, police detectives extended their investigation to Aba, where they arrested the suspects and rescued a 24-year-old pregnant woman, Miss Regina Sunday, from their hideout,” Iringe-Koko stated.

Regina, who was placed in protective custody, gave birth shortly afterward. “On June 30, she safely delivered a baby boy at the Police Clinic in Port Harcourt. Both mother and child are currently receiving medical care and are in stable condition,” the police spokesperson added.

The command has launched a manhunt for other members of the trafficking ring, vowing to dismantle the network entirely. Iringe-Koko reaffirmed the commitment of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, to protecting lives and enforcing the law.

“We urge members of the public to continue reporting suspicious human trafficking activities to assist the police in eradicating this menace from society,” she appealed.
