Viktor Gyokeres finally found the back of the net for Arsenal, helping his team secure the Emirates Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao.
The Gunners wrapped up the £63.7 million signing of Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon in late July, ending their prolonged search for a true number nine.
Gyokeres made his Arsenal debut during their 1-0 loss to Tottenham in Hong Kong but was unable to score.
He also came up empty against Villarreal earlier in the week. However, he broke his scoring drought on Saturday against Athletic Bilbao in Arsenal’s last pre-season match.
The 27-year-old opened the scoring with a powerful header, connecting perfectly to a cross from fellow summer signing Martin Zubimendi.
Despite only scoring four headed goals in 102 appearances at Sporting, with some rival fans doubting his aerial threat, Gyokeres proved them wrong by delivering an impressive headed finish.
Arsenal will be hopeful that his heading ability will be a key asset this season.
Bukayo Saka quickly doubled the lead before halftime, and Kai Havertz sealed the win with a late third goal.
The match concluded with Arsenal prevailing 6-5 in a penalty shootout.
This win comes just over a week before Arsenal kick off their Premier League campaign with an away match against Manchester United.
