The Kaduna State Police Command has invited former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, and six other chieftains of the African Democratic Congress for questioning over allegations bordering on criminal conspiracy, incitement, public disturbance, and causing grievous harm.
In an invitation letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, Uzairu Abdullahi, the ADC leadership was directed to present the individuals at the State Criminal Investigation Department on September 8, 2025.
Those summoned include El-Rufai, Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (popularly called “30”), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (known as “Mikiya”).
According to the letter, “This Department is currently investigating the above-mentioned case involving the following members of your party. You are requested to come along with them to SCID to clarify allegations reported against them by the complainants on 8th September, 2025.”
The police explained that the move was part of efforts to safeguard law and order in the state.
Earlier on Thursday, operatives sealed off the ADC state secretariat at Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna, hours before an expected visit by the party’s North-West leadership. The visit was meant to commiserate with members injured during a violent attack by political thugs the previous week.
Reacting at a press conference in Kaduna, El-Rufai described the police action as unconstitutional.
“The commissioner of police knows what he is doing is against the Constitution. We have not seen any court order, neither has it been properly served to us,” the ex-governor said. “Even if such an order exists, due process requires it to be served directly. As responsible leaders, we deferred to the police to avoid confrontation, but we don’t believe the commissioner of police could be lying.”
He further hinted that the matter would be challenged legally. “We want to see that order, and of course, we will contest it up to the Supreme Court. This is not the end of it; other steps will follow,” El-Rufai declared.
The development comes amid heightened political tension in Kaduna. Last week, thugs stormed the venue of a transition committee meeting linked to the ADC, injuring several participants and vandalising property, while police officers were accused of standing by.
The Kaduna State Government had earlier accused El-Rufai of destabilising the political climate.
In a statement issued on September 1, the Commissioner for Internal Security, Dr. Shehu Shuaibu, warned “Anyone who attempts to threaten our hard-won peace, whether Nasir El-Rufai or his associates, will be held accountable.”
