Police summon APC senator over alleged threat against Accord party members

The Osun State Police Command has invited Senator Francis Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District, for questioning over comments in which he allegedly called on supporters to “kill” members of the Accord Party.

The invitation followed the circulation of a video on social media in which Fadahunsi, while speaking in Yoruba at an All Progressives Congress campaign event in Ilesa, was heard making the controversial remarks.

In a letter dated August 11, 2026, and signed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of elections in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, the senator was directed to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department in Osogbo at 11am on Wednesday.

The police said the invitation was to enable Fadahunsi to explain the circumstances surrounding the remarks.

The letter stated that the invitation was based on information alleging that the senator made statements considered “threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature.”

In the viral video, Fadahunsi was heard telling APC supporters, “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them.”

He also reportedly referred to the family members of the alleged targets during the address.

However, following the backlash generated by the video, the senator’s team denied that he was advocating violence against members of the opposition.

His team explained that the statement was intended as a metaphorical appeal for voters to defeat the Accord Party at the ballot box.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Senator’s statement was purely political and metaphorical,” the team said in a statement titled, “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence.”

The team added that Fadahunsi was calling on APC supporters to “overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box through lawful, peaceful and democratic means” during the August 15 governorship election.

The controversy comes amid heightened political tensions ahead of Saturday’s governorship poll.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, has repeatedly alleged that the APC has mobilised thugs to attack his supporters, allegations the party has rejected.
