The Kano State Police Command has announced a restriction of movement in four local government areas ahead of the upcoming by-election and re-run polls.
In a statement on Thursday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, named the affected LGAs as Bagwai, Shanono, Ghari, and Tsanyawa.
“Movement of motor vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles is strictly restricted from 12 midnight of Friday the 15th to 6 pm of Saturday the 16th, August 2025,” Haruna said.
He explained that the measure is necessary to ensure the elections are peaceful, free, fair, and credible, adding that only vehicles providing essential services would be allowed on the roads.
“Being the election day proper, exceptions will only be granted to vehicles on essential services, such as ambulances, fire service trucks, and vehicles of electoral officers and accredited election observers,” he stated.
Haruna noted that the restrictions come under the directive of CP Ibrahim Bakori, with the Command working alongside other security agencies to guarantee a “peaceful, free, fair, transparent, and successful re-run election in Ghari/Tsanyawa State Constituency and a by-election in Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency.”
“To maintain law and order during the elections, the command wishes to inform visitors and residents of the affected Local Government Areas Ghari, Tsanyawa, Bagwai, and Shanono of guidelines and restrictions,” he added.
He stressed that only eligible voters will be permitted inside polling units and that “only agents duly accredited by INEC would be granted access.”
He further warned that “the carrying of weapons of any kind is strictly prohibited. Individuals wearing clothing or carrying items with political party logos or identities will not be allowed at polling units, while loitering in or around polling units will not be tolerated.”
The statement also clarified that “state security outfits, including vigilante groups and KAROTA personnel, would not be permitted at polling units.”
Haruna assured the public that the police remain committed to “ensuring adequate security and maintaining peace during the electoral process,” and urged all residents and visitors in the affected LGAs to “fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies for a smooth exercise.”
