Operatives of the Kebbi State Police Command have rescued two kidnapped victims following a fierce exchange of gunfire with bandits in Ribah district, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, who confirmed the development in a statement issued on Saturday, said the rescue operation occurred at about 3:05 p.m. on August 15, 2025, during a strategic patrol around Dankade village.

“The joint team, which comprised police personnel, vigilantes and local hunters, was led by the Divisional Police Officer of Ribah. They engaged the bandits in a gun duel that lasted for hours before successfully rescuing the two victims,” Abubakar disclosed.

The victims were identified as 26-year-old Tukur Bello from Kembawa village in Augie Local Government Area of Kebbi State and 25-year-old Isyaka Abubakar from Budun village in Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to the police spokesman, both men were abducted on August 9, 2025, while grazing cattle in Gairi forest, Zamfara State.

“They were rescued unharmed and immediately taken to a medical facility for examination before being reunited with their families,” he added.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bello M. Sani, hailed the resilience and professionalism displayed by the DPO Ribah and his team.

“He urged them to sustain the momentum in the fight against banditry and other violent crimes threatening peace and socio-economic development in the area,” the statement said.

The CP further encouraged other divisional police officers across Kebbi to emulate the Ribah division by conducting aggressive patrols and increasing visibility in communities considered vulnerable to attacks.

Reassuring residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, CP Sani vowed that the police would not relent in the ongoing battle against criminal elements in the state.
