Police rescue 60-year-old kidnap victim, arrest suspected killers in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a 60-year-old man abducted by suspected kidnappers in Iseyin and arrested several suspects linked to kidnapping and murder in separate operations across the state.

The rescued victim, identified as Isiaku Saidu, was abducted on January 11, 2026, when armed assailants stormed Budo community via Bassi Camp in Iseyin Local Government Area.

Confirming the development in a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the rescue followed a firm directive by the Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, to intensify security operations across Oyo State.

“Over the past week, the command has recorded notable operational successes, including the rescue of abducted victims, the arrest of kidnapping and murder suspects, and the recovery of exhibits,” Ayanlade said.

He explained that following the abduction, the Divisional Police Officer in Ago-Are, working with other security agencies, launched intensive patrols and bush-combing operations that led operatives to the kidnappers’ hideout.

“Upon sighting the joint security team, the suspects opened fire, resulting in a gun duel.

One of the suspects was neutralised, another was arrested and is currently cooperating with investigators, while others escaped with gunshot injuries,” the police spokesman stated.

The police urged residents to report anyone seen with suspicious bullet wounds to the nearest police station.

In a related operation, the command also rescued another kidnap victim, Hussinat Abubakar, who was abducted at Gelede Camp, Komu, in Itesiwaju Local Government Area.

According to Ayanlade, the victim was rescued without the payment of ransom, while three suspects—Kari Ibrahim (22), Dure Jimoh (25), and Abubakar Sidi (55)—were arrested.

“The suspects have confessed to their roles in the crime, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate,” he said.

He added that the rescued victim is receiving medical care, while the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

“Six expended cartridges were recovered at the scene. This operation underscores the command’s resolve to rescue victims promptly and discourage ransom payments that embolden criminal activities,” Ayanlade added.

The Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
