The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched an inquiry into the suspected suicide of a 30-year-old man, identified as Ik Ojo, in the Kagini–Dei-Dei axis of Abuja.

Ik’s lifeless body was discovered in his apartment during the early hours of Friday, sparking concern and speculation among neighbours.

A video shared online captured some residents questioning the circumstances surrounding his death, with suggestions of possible foul play.

Confirming the incident, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said in a statement on Saturday that the Police were alerted on August 5, 2025, and officers from the Dei-Dei Division swiftly moved to the scene.

The victim was taken to Kubwa General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

“The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command on 5th August 2025 received a distress call reporting the suspected suicide of one Ik Ojo (male, 30) who was found hanging in his residence at Kagini, Dei-Dei area of the FCT,” the statement read.

“Responding promptly, police operatives from Dei-Dei Division visited the scene and evacuated the victim to Kubwa General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a medical doctor. The body has since been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy,” Adeh added.

According to her, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, has tasked detectives with unravelling the true circumstances of the case.

“The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, has ordered a thorough and discreet investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further details will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” she stated.

The tragedy comes against the backdrop of a recent World Health Organisation report released on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, which revealed that suicide accounts for more than one in every 100 deaths globally.

The WHO also raised concerns about a growing mental health crisis among young people, calling for urgent intervention.

While Police and medical authorities are yet to confirm suicide as the official cause of Ik’s death, experts encourage individuals facing mental health struggles to seek professional support.
