The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended two individuals in connection with murder and drug-related offences in Damaturu, the state capital.
The suspects, Musa Mohammed (24) and Ibrahim Abdullahi (32), are accused of killing Adamu Suleiman Saidu (33) and Abdullahi Musa (20) using an axe and other weapons.
Spokesperson for the command, Superintendent of Police Dungus Abdulkarim, stated yesterday in Damaturu that a distress call was received at the ‘A’ Division Police station on April 7, 2026, at around 2:10pm concerning a violent attack that occurred at approximately 6:30pm in the Bindigari Primary School area of Damaturu metropolis.
“Our preliminary investigation indicated that Said was allegedly attacked by Musa Mohammed, also known as ‘Aljan’, following a misunderstanding believed to be connected to substance abuse. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with an axe, inflicting severe injuries to his head, while the suspect sustained minor injuries during the fight with Musa.
“Consequently, police operatives swiftly mobilised to the scene, arrested the suspect, and recovered the axe used in committing the crime, which has been registered as an exhibit,” he said.
Abdulkarim added that the victim was immediately taken to the General Hospital, Damaturu, for treatment but unfortunately died while receiving care.
He confirmed that investigations into the incident have begun, with the suspect set to face prosecution.
In a related incident, Musa was previously arrested following the death of Abdullahi during a confrontation over a borrowed T-shirt on April 5, 2026, around 1:30pm.
The Guardian learned that officers attached to ‘C’ Division, Damaturu, responded quickly to a distress call involving a violent fight between Musa and Abdullahi, both from Abari.
“During the altercation, punches were exchanged, causing one of the parties to fall to the ground unconscious.
“Police operatives immediately rushed the victim to the Specialist Hospital Damaturu, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel,” SP Abdulkarim said.
He urged parents, community leaders, and civil society organisations to collaborate with security agencies to curb drug and substance abuse among youths, noting its role in violent crimes and preventable deaths.
The command reaffirmed its dedication to combating crime across Yobe, citing a continued reduction in crime rates as proof of the cooperation and support of community members.
CP Emmanuel Ado called on the public to remain law-abiding, resolve disputes peacefully, and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
