Two suspected robbers have been apprehended by operatives of the Edo State Police Command for allegedly stealing a motorcycle and several mobile phones.
In a statement released in Benin City on Saturday, the State Police Command’s Spokesperson, Moses Yamu, identified the suspects as 25-year-old Binigolo Ebimene and 27-year-old Mathew Denwei.
According to Yamu, the suspects carried out the robbery at Malim camp in Gbelebu community, located within the Ovia South-West Local Government Area.
He explained that the duo was arrested after the police received a distress call from the victims of the attack.
Preliminary investigations, according to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, indicated that the suspects had been troubling both farmers and travelers in the area.
Items recovered from the suspects included a locally made pistol, two headlamps, and the motorcycle reportedly stolen from one of their victims.
Yamu confirmed that the suspects had confessed to the crime and would face prosecution once investigations were completed.
The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has since issued a stern warning to criminal elements in the state, declaring that “there is no hiding place for them,” and advising them to “either repent, relocate from the state or face the consequences.”
He also appealed to residents to avoid criminal activities and remain vigilant by reporting any suspicious individuals, movements, or items to law enforcement authorities.
